I left my high school teaching career eight years ago to start a home based internet business. Since then I've had several internet businesses. Some have been great successes and others have been, well...a learning experience.

I had already purchased many books that promised floods of instant income. I was eager to get rolling and had that feeling of pure enthusiasm. I felt unstoppable. When things didn't go exactly as planned I felt like I hit a brick wall. I was applying what I learned, but at the same time felt the weight of information overload. Gratefully, I pushed through that first failure and went on to achieve great success, eventually becoming a 7-figure earner in online business.

That first failure often stops people from pursuing their dreams of success online, but don't let it. There is much success to be had. Just follow these simple tips.

The first mistake to avoid is rushing into a home-based business program that you know little or nothing about. These days, the internet is flooded with internet businesses and home business offers. Be sure to do your due diligence and get the facts. There are great opportunities and you want to choose one that is ethical, has a solid business foundation, products in high demand and leaders you can get direct access to. If your being promised hundreds of thousands of dollars of instant income with a $25.00 investment, it probably isn't going to pan out. Be realistic and realize the internet is not a lottery ticket. It takes effort, diligence and the desire to learn and apply.

The second mistake to avoid is thinking you can go from zero to a successful Internet business in 30 days or less. I am not saying it is impossible, but most end up with a giant information overflow and no money in the pocket. You must plan for a modest income the first 1- 3 months. Just like anything, it takes time to learn and to apply. However, the fastest way to overcome this learning curve and earn faster is to use automated, established systems.

With automated systems, you benefit from the experience of leaders who have already tested the waters and proven what works. Use their system to create cash flow and then you can expand your other internet businesses. As well, you can benefit greatly from the coaching, instruction and advice that top producers offer.

The third mistake is quitting a program too soon. What I did and you should not repeat is thinking that there is something wrong with the program when the money doesn't start pouring in. Often it is a question of making minor changes, measuring the effects of the changes and wait for things to start happen. Stick to it and you're going to win.

The forth mistake to avoid is to get involved in too many things at one time. Stay focused on a primary business and develop additional income streams as you go along. In particular, us an automated system to generate your leads so that you earn money from your marketing while at the same time you grow your business.

The fifth mistake is not taking the time to learn the basic marketing information. The basic skills for succeeding with a home-based business are to create content, attract visitors and make money from your visitors. You can buy some product and services that helps you on the way, but you must understand and be able to handle the basic stuff if you want to establish your home business and survive. This will also help you avoid unscrupulous vendors in the future.

Starting an internet business is like a wrestling match. Be patient and work hard and smart and you will become the champ of home-based Internet marketing and find success with your internet businesses.
